Admissions

Applicants must be eligible for admission to the university.  See “Regulations: Admission and Registration” in the SDSU General Catalog.

Once accepted to the university, students interested in the athletic training major are subject to further screening by the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences and the athletic training professional program.
Impacted Programs

The athletic training major is an impacted program. To be admitted, students must meet the following:
Complete Exercise and Nutritional Sciences 200 with a grade of C or higher, and Biology 212 with a grade of B or higher.  These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);
Complete a minimum of 60 semester units applicable to the lower division General Education requirements to include all Preparation for the Major requirements and electives to reach 60 units. Exercise and Nutritional Sciences 200 and Biology 212 must be completed before taking upper division major courses. Preparation for the Major courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher;
Complete with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0: Biology 212, Exercise and Nutritional Sciences 265, 265L.  These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);
the ADDITIONAL criteria for admission to the athletic training professional program listed on the Athletic Training site.


Application Procedure

Acceptance into the athletic training professional program is required for major status.  Application to the program is competitive and limited in number. Applications are due February 1 each year.

Application Process

Application to the ATEP is due February 1st of the sophomore year for admittance the following fall semester. Acceptance into the program is based on the following criteria:
Overall GPA > 2.80 as indicated by official transcripts
Prerequisite GPA > 3.0 (includes credit in ENS 265/265L; BIO 212 or equivalent)
Evidence of academic progression and ability to handle clinical and academic demands of the program
Current certification in CPR & First Aid
Specified CPR courses are required as indicated by the BOC. List of acceptable CPR courses.
Letter of documentation that verifies completion of at least 60 hours of observation in a traditional athletic training setting
Technical Standards for Admission
Personal statement and application
Two letters of recommendation
Interview

A student who is declared as a pre-major is eligible for application. However, students are expected to have most, if not all, of the pre-major courses completed by the end of the spring semester in which they apply. The interviews are scheduled at the beginning of the spring semester and are conducted by an interview committee. The committee consists of at least one faculty member and preceptors from the clinical sites.

        Training Admission and Exclusion Panel Members

All exclusion panel members must be trained at least every two years.  While the 2012 Admission Code does not stipulate a timescale, two years is probably right for admission appeal panel members too.  It is essential that panel members have sufficient knowledge of the latest rules to carry out their duties.  Over the last few years there has been a steady rise in the number of complaints to the Ombudsman.  A well trained panel will result in less successful complaints to the Ombusman.  In 2013, we delivered more than 40 admission and permanent exclusion courses for a number of Local Authorities and School Admission Authorities.

I've never been a fan of the Zain-Airtel Nigeria network 'cause I've basically never found one genuine reason to add them to the list of telecommunication networks I belong to. Their ever changing name is enough to put me off as it sends out a clear message: "We are so not ready for business!"
In the past I've written posts on subscribing to Glo Internet Plans, Etisalat Internet Plans and MTN Internet Plans. Recently a visitor asked why I had none on Zain-Airtel Internet Subscription Codes thus I decided to take time out to create this one .
Please note that in my experience, Globacom Nigeria offers the fastest internet connectivity in Nigeria at the moment. I've heard quite a number of folks testify to the fact that Airtel's internet speed kinda sucks but it's all about personal experience. For some, Airtel's internet connection is simply fantastic.

How To Get Airtel Internet Settings For Your Mobile Phone and USB Internet Modem
Setting up Airtel's Internet service ain't difficult at all. There are five ways of going about it.

1. You can call the Airtel Customer Care on 111 from your Airtel line and they will guide you through the setup.
2. You can visit any of the Airtel Nigeria offices in Nigeria and have the customer care reps setup the internet service for you.
3. In the comfort of your home, you can send an SMS with the words  "internet<space> phonebrand<space>model" to 232. Example "internet nokia N96". As soon as the settings have been sent to your phone, you accept, install or save them and if asked for a Pin, please use '0' or '0000'.
4. You can send the settings to your phone via Airtel's DMC Page. You can read more about using that feature @ How To Get Airtel Nigeria's WAP-MMS-Internet Settings Delivered Straight To Your Mobile Phone.
5. If you are a techie person, you can configure the device yourself using the settings below:

NOTE: If after using options 4 and 5, you still can't connect to the internet, try texting Internet to 232 to activate full internet service.

How To Subscribe to Airtel Nigeria's Internet Browsing Plans Using Subscription Codes
Airtel Nigeria has internet data plans for both Mobile Handheld/Smartphones/iPad customers and Data Card Customers. Both plans are freely interchangeable that is they can be used the other way round on either devices.
To subscribe to a particular plan, simply browse through the plans listed below, select the one that fits your budget, load the correct amount of credit to your phone or data card and then dial the corresponding USSD Activation Code for your plan.
























Example: If I were interested in buying the Airtel Plus plan, I would load N5,000 worth of Airtel airtime to my phone or usb internet modem and then dial the USSD Activation code which in the case of Plus plan is *141*12*1#.
To check your remaining internet data plan balance, simply use the USSD string *141*11*0# or send STATUS to 141.
Please note that failure to subscribe to a data plan would result in being charged at PAYU rate of 15Kobo per Kilobyte. This 15Kobo per Kilobyte rate also applies to all those who finish their data allowance and fail to re-subscribe to another plan.

These drastic price reductions leaves me wondering if the GLO network is strong enough to handle the tons of people that will possibly migrate from other network to theirs. 3GB a month for just N1,200/N1,400 is a lot but I'm guessing that they are banking on the fact that most BlackBerry users don't really download large files on their blackberry devices.
RIM might just have found a potential market in Nigeria for their BlackBerry smartphones .

Etisalat Nigeria BlackBerry Complete, Voice & Social Plans

Rumors have it that BlackBerry subscribers in Nigeria are set to pass the 1 million mark and Etisalat Nigeria has awoken from its slumber and further widened its range of BlackBerry services with the launch of the BlackBerry Complete Plan and BlackBerry Voice Plan.
Following the recent erratic nature of the Glo BlackBerry Service here in Sokoto, I switched to the Etisalat Network on their N3,000 BlackBerry Internet Service bundle plan in hopes of better service but the opposite has been the same.
Opera Mini simply doesn't work on their network and going on a week now, the BlackBerry default browser as well Facebook application ain't working at all and they've only apologized once for this. The service tends to fluctuate during the day time but past midnight, the speed and service is ABSOLUTELY amazing leaving me wondering if they might already be experiencing congestion issues on the network.
I hope they get their sh*t together soon before my subscription expires and I'm tempted to switch back to the Glo network.

ETISALAT NIGERIA BLACKBERRY COMPLETE PLAN

With BlackBerry sales kinda dwindling worldwide, the folks at RIM decided to target subscribers on a budget by releasing an abridged version of the whole BIS package called the Complete plan. The BlackBerry Complete plan was first introduced by Globacom Nigeria before Etisalat followed suit just last week.
Just like Glo's version, Etisalat's BlackBerry complete plan allows access to one BlackBerry email (user@etisalatng.blackberry.com), one personalized email account (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail) and every other service on the BlackBerry network including the BlackBerry App World.
The service costs N1,500 a month. Weekly and Daily plans are available too and data allowance is allegedly UNLIMITED.


NOTE: Certain BlackBerry proprietary apps WILL NOT work on this plan such as the BlackBerry Protect app.

ETISALAT NIGERIA BLACKBERRY VOICE PLAN

Call tariffs in Nigeria have experienced quite a huge reduction in recent months with Globacom Nigeria's Glo Infinito plan offering the cheapest call rate to any network in Nigeria at just 25K per second with no hidden charges or access fees common to the other networks.
Etisalat Nigeria has taken a bold step in bringing the flat rate to 20k/second BUT only for BlackBerry subscribers on their network.
Etisalat's BlackBerry Voice plan offers the same service as their regular Blackberry internet service bundle with the difference that subscribers on this plan get to enjoy calls to all networks at 20k/second only!

ETISALAT NIGERIA BLACKBERRY SOCIAL PLAN

It is a known fact that over here in Nigeria, there are a select group of folks (girls especially) who do nothing with their BlackBerry phones other than chat on the social networks and BlackBerry Messenger. This plan was created with them in mind.
For the little sum of N1,300 a month, subscribers on this plan are offered access to the internet, 1 BlackBerry email, Social Networking (twitter, facebook), BlackBerry Messenger and BlackBerry App World.
Unfortunately this plan will most definitely become obsolete with the arrival of the Complete plan which costs N1,500 unless of course subscribers are stingy enough not to want to spend an extra N200.

UC Browser and Download Manager For BlackBerry 9300 Curve 3G

UPDATE: UC Browser For BlackBerry installation seems to have some issues on BB models running on OS 5. To make use of this mobile browser, you are advised to upgrade to BlackBerry OS 6.0.
Some time ago, I was contacted by the guys at UC Web to help them promote their free mobile web browser, UC Browser but I declined 'cause the browser still wasn't compatible with my BlackBerry Curve 3 device. Just yesterday one of my commentators alerted me to the fact that a new version of the browser had been released and boy it's simply awesome as it now includes what most BlackBerry users have been dying for: A functional internet download manager for BlackBerry phones with Pause and Resume download functions.
Just like Opera Mini, the UC Browser uses advanced compression technology and advanced cloud computing technology to drastically make browsing on mobile phones faster and a lot more stable as well as reducing data costs and consumption by up to 85%.
Truth be told, web pages load 3 times faster on UC Browser 7.8 than Opera Mini 6.1 as far as I could tell from my tests. This could also mean that Opera's turbo servers are gradually getting congested .
Web pages and images can easily be saved with a .uhtml extension for later viewing or sharing via Twitter, SMS or Bluetooth.
The embedded File Manager allows access to open, delete and share your files by Bluetooth in UC Browser. Text, Music and Video files are all opened via the BlackBerry Browser while other file types are opened with their default applications like Documents to Go.
With the SMS function, you can easily text any number from the web browser but do please note that this function makes use of the available credit on your phone. IT'S NOT FREE!
UC Browser's Super Download Manager is what trips me the most. Opera Mini and BOLT have always had issues downloading files that weren't 3GP, MP4 or MP3. Downloads were always cut off at 4.8MB which was quite frustrating and in some cases, the downloads never even started at all. This new mobile phone browser changes that all.
As you can see in the screen captures below, downloading large files on your blackberry phone with UC Browser is TOTALLY possible.
Simply click on your download link and UC Browser prompts you to save the file. Save the file to a directory on your microSD card and the download begins at once. If the network is kinda bad or you have other important browsing to do on your device, simply pause the download from the Menu and when you are ready to resume the download, go to menu and hit Resume.

NOTE: The beauty of UC Browser's download manager lies in the fact that during my tests, I paused a download, shut down UC Browser, switched off my BlackBerry and switched it on again, opened UC Browser and I was still able to resume my downloads! UNBELIEVABLE!
Out of fear, when the download was complete, I checked for file integrity and the file was intact! Sheer fabulousity

My last article on BlackBerry File Download Managers is now kinda obsolete with the arrival of this fabulous web browser.
The only downside I've noticed with the UC Browser is its' inability to handle style sheets (css) properly as numbered lists on web pages are somewhat of askew.

Download BlackBerry OS 6.0 For All Mobile Networks

Upgrading my BlackBerry operating system to OS 6.0.0.546 (Bundle 2475) has been on my mind for weeks now ever since I heard that BlackBerry OS 6.0 had been released for major BlackBerry models like Tour, Curve, Bold, Storm and Pearl.
Globacom Nigeria, my network operator as always wasn't pushing the BB operating system (OS)upgrade to mobile phones nor did they have it for download on their site thus I sought out to find a reliable download source for OS 6.0 for my Curve 9300 3G which to my utmost shock/surprise had been available all along on the official BlackBerry website.
Unfortunately, due to my location (no 3.5G internet connection), the official BlackBerry OS 6 download was slow as hell and had no pause - resume download ability. As luck would have it, I was able to reach out to a few of my online pals/co-bloggers (Karen, Ileane and Mitch Mitchtell) and Mitch quickly came to my rescue downloading the OS for me and uploading it to my server.
The download weighing in at 157MB took about 4hrs 37minutes to complete after which I then proceeded to upgrade my blackberry curve 3 to OS 6.0.

NOTE: Before you upgrade your blackberry phone to 0S 6.0, it's strongly recommended that you contact your network provider to verify if the network is compatible with OS 6 as not all networks are.
Globacom Nigeria only had OS 5 for download so after confirming that the network could handle OS 6.0, I downloaded it off Etisalat Nigeria.

Download and Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
To commence downloading OS 6.0 for Blackberry, go to BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites and choose your network provider.


Select your BlackBerry Model


Scroll down and click on Download under BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.2475 (Multilanguage)



Fill your data to gain access to the download area.


Accept the Blackberry downloads agreement by scrolling down, selecting Agree and hitting the next button.


Click download to commence your saving the OS 6.0 to your computer then wait till it's done

A few years ago when BlackBerry internet services were introduced in Nigeria, the costs of both the device and the subscription packages were absolutely ridiculous and it immediately became some sort of a status icon for the people.
Well with the launch of Glo Nigeria's GLO-1 undersea cable, internet services in Nigeria have crashed to absolutely affordable rates and the most affordable of them all remains that which you get via your BlackBerry device.
With the likes of Glo Nigeria, you can subscribe to the BlackBerry Internet Service for just N2,800 a month with 1.5GB of data inclusive.
For those of you who feel the 1.5GB offered wouldn't go a long way, well you are wrong 'cause it lasts due to BlackBerry's data compression which is one of the major features of BlackBerry phones.
If you don't own a BlackBerry device yet and you want to get one, I highly recommend you buy from authorized BlackBerry dealers in Nigeria. The cheapest of the lot of BlackBerry phones in the market with 3.5G internet connection is the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300. It currently goes for about N37,500 @ Slot Ltd, Ikeja, Lagos.

NOTE: Your BlackBerry Internet Service package cannot be used to browse on your desktop or laptop. If you want to browse on your laptop with your BlackBerry Phone, please read: How To Use Your BlackBerry As An Internet Modem.

Two quick things to note before reading the table below. Globacom's BIS packages aren't UNLIMITED as advertised. There's a cap of 1.5GB for the monthly subscription plan. Once your data allowance for the month is over, you'd have to re-subscribe again.
I'm not sure about the data allowance for the Weekly and Daily plans. You'd have to text Status to 777 to find out.
If you have issues making phone calls or sending text messages while on the GLO 3G network, I suggest to got to MENU >> OPTIONS >> MOBILE NETWORK and set your network mode to 2G (GPRS/EDGE mode).

BlackBerry Social Plan: this plan only allows you access to Social networking (facebook, twitter, flickr, MySpace), Blackberry Messenger, Yahoo messenger, Google talk (GTalk) and MSN messenger. As a bonus you get 100 on-net SMS. You get no access to Emails.



BlackBerry Email & IM Plan: this plan only allows you access to your Emails (yahoo, gmail, hotmail), Blackberry messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk (Gtalk) and MSN messenger. This plan doesn't support social networking. As a bonus you get 100 on-net SMS.

From what I can gather @ the Airtel site, Airtel's BlackBerry Internet Services are only available to Post-paid subscribers only. Details of data allowance and included features aren't clear so just visit their site.

UPDATE: As from June 23 2011, Airtel BlackBerry Internet Services are now available to Prepaid subscribers using the same subscription codes as the Postpaid packages.
Apart from offering their blackberry internet services to prepaid subscribers, Airtel Nigeria has now launched Airtel Social and Messaging plan like Etisalat has.
Here are the details

1. Airtel Nigeria Social BIS Plan: This plan offers you access to Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, Twitter, Facebook and BB Messenger with 20 free SMS which I'm guessing is to Airtel lines only. You are NOT ALLOWED access to email and web browsing and the package costs just N1,580. To subscribe to Airtel's Social BlackBerry: text “socialmonth” to 440.
2. Airtel Nigeria Messaging BIS Plan: On this plan, you've allowed access to ten (10) email accounts, including the option of a personalized email account. Access to BB Messenger and 20 free SMS is thrown in as well but without access to social networks and web browsing. It also costs N1,580 monthly and to subscribe simply text “messagemonth” to 440
